The climate in Morocco
The climate in Morocco is characterized by the transition from a hot desert climate to a milder, Mediterranean climate. One differentiates a cool period with rains and a hot, dry season.
In the north the hot season lasts from June to September, in the south from April to October.
On the coast the temperatures are quite mild (20 – 25 ° C), inland they can get hot up to 40 ° C.
The average temperatures in the desert (M’Hamid) in winter can be up to 20 ° C during the day and at night it has minus degrees. In summer temperatures can reach 55 ° C in the shade during the day. But at night it is pleasantly warm.
The best time to travel to the Moroccan Sahra is from September to May.
Especially in March and sometimes in April, as well as in October, there may be sandstorms on some days. The Sahara Standsturm is called Scirocco (or even Sirocco). It is caused by the pressure differential between cool low pressure areas in the north of Morocco – especially when it rains there – and the hot air over the Sahara.
The weather on the coast offers a beautiful travel season all year round. The Atlantic cools the air noticeably and therefore the temperatures are between 22-30 degrees (even in summer). More than 30 degrees on the coast are rare. The water temperatures vary from 15 degrees in winter to 23 degrees in summer. The water temperatures on the Mediterranean coast of Morocco, however, are slightly higher in summer.
